I'm not a particularly religious person but I love Emmy Lou Harris' phrase "walking in glory" as a beautiful welcoming metaphor for what lies ahead, for all of us
Since failing my last chemo drug, pain and fatigue are new companions. I use pain meds, just topical right now, and they help keep me moving each day. These companions mostly show me the direction and pace we are walking.
Clinical trials have proved a formidable challenge...not open, too far, too frequent, not qualified, randomized...an exhausting chase for...? I have doctors at both Mayo and the Univ. of MN assisting me, but finding the "next treatment" has been difficult. I go to Mayo next week, also to the University of Chicago to apply for an immune therapy trial (tumor tissue must be analyzed to see if I qualify).
So maybe hospice will be my "next treatment", there is certainly some peace in that, to stop paddling and enjoy the float.
Back to Emmy Lou, from this vantage point she is exactly correct: And when we're walking together in glory
Hand in hand through eternity
It's the love that will be remembered
Not wealth, not poverty
